Review: Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation.

I realise that I am very late on the bandwagon with this foundation, however as soon as I got my hands on the much hyped about Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (review here) a few months ago, this made an appearance and everybody started raving about this instead. I really liked the Bourjois foundation but I am always open to trying out new products, so I picked this one up as soon as I ran out.

Rimmel claims that this foundation eliminates signs of tiredness and fatigue with radiance pearls that illuminate the skin. Peptides also increase elasticity to minimize premature skin aging.

The shade I use is 200 (Soft Beige) if anybody is interested. Like most drugstore foundations, a downfall with this product is that it is only available in seven shades, which don't stretch to cater for very pale or very dark skin tones.

The product comes in transparent glass bottle which makes it feel more expensive than it is and it has a pump dispenser, which I really like as it allows for you to control how much product you use. I'm not too sure if I like the bright orange lid, but this isn't too much of a problem, plus I must admit that it matches the "wake up" theme of the product.

The consistency of this foundation is a little thicker than the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation which was very watery. It spreads easily and without streaks. I would describe this as a medium to heavy coverage foundation; it doesn't quite cover everything but it does leave your skin looking naturally radiant. The finish is quite dewy and there is a subtle shimmer running throughout the foundation, but I don't think it is too dewy that it would look greasy on oily skin, however I would recommend this more for drier skin. I have an oily T-Zone with dry cheeks and I don't find that this clings to any dry areas. I always use a setting powder to keep my foundation in place and I have found that this has lasted me around ten hours with minimal streaking.

L-R: Upon application, blended out.

Although it is a very close call, I do think that the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation has taken first place over the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, simply for the better packaging and slightly thicker consistency that I think is easier to work with. At £8.99 for 30ml, it is slightly cheaper than the Bourjois alternative and I have seen it on offer quite a few times too (I remember paying £6.99 for mine). You can buy Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation from Superdrug and Boots.

Have you tried this foundation? What do you think? Would you compare it to Healthy Mix?

  1. One thing that I really noticed was the finely milled glitter...maybe that isn't the best way to describe it...but I was surprised by the amount of shimmer in the foundation. Not surprised in a bad way though, I think that is why it makes skin look radiant :)
    Thanks for the great review!

  2. I haven't tried this but I really need to! I swatched the concealer equivalent in Boots and it seemed to give really good coverage!

  3. I use this foundation everyday! It does seem to make my skin look nice! I'm not beauty blogger and can't compare it to the Bourjois one as I haven't tried it but let's just say this foundation is my favourite one I have owned before! xo

  4. I loved the finish of this more than Healthy Mix but it ended up a bit of too shiny on my combination skin :( xx

  6. I bought this on a whim when it was £5 in wilkinsons and I loveee it. I really thought I would hate it because of the sparkles in it but I find it gives me a much more natural finish than the foundation I was using before and it seems to agree with my skin most of the time too. The only thing I don't like is the glittery fingers it gives me, and I use a brush to apply too! It goes everywhere! (: xx

    1. I saw it on offer in Wilkinsons when I was buying it too but they didn't have my shade in stock :( I totally agree with you, the shimmer doesn't transfer on to the face too much :) x

  7. I recently bought the Bourjois healthy mix serum- whilst its a lovely foundation to use, its lacking in coverage. I really want to give this one a go!

    1. I've never tried the Healthy Mix Serum, but I do think that this foundation has a tiny bit more coverage than the Healthy Mix Foundation, so maybe do give it a go :) x

  8. I haven't tried this out, heard so many great reviews. However I do love my Bourjois so may stick with that or try my mom's Rimmel foundation out :) Although if it's on offer I can't refuse that ;)

  9. I was really, really excited to try this foundation because everybody was talking about it. I bought mine in the lightest shade (because I'm ridiculously pale) and it was still too dark for me! I wish drugstore foundations would cater to skintones like mine.

    1. Aww no, that's so annoying! I agree that they should cater for more skintones, I don't know why they don't already! X

  10. Unfortunately they don't make a pale enough shade for me so I'll be sticking with the Bourjois Healthy Mix :)

  14. Hi, great review! What is the darkest shade of rimmel wake me up foundation? And what rimmel concealer would you recommend for it? Thanks!

  15. thank you so much for the review, as it's clear, concise, and coherent! ;)
By the way, what is the best foundation you have ever used?

  16. I've just bought the Ivory shade. Tried the tester on my face in boots (I did a whole face application. Shameless). My husband came and founde and liked it so I bought it. It feels lovely on. Not heavy and greasy and thick. Sometimes liquids can feel like they've got spots in them but this settles beautifully! I seem to have a chin prone to spots so I really recommend this for sensitive ladies! Xx
